I plant mine by sprinkling on top of an inch of fine compost, hit them with a hose sprayer to set them in place and set up micro-sprinklers and leave them on all day until the carrots come up. I fertilize once, when they get two or three good leaves. I'm growing on almost pure sand.

I have A LOT of seeds of many different vegetables, herbs and even some fruits (melon, watermelon, strawberries) enough to start a complete vegetable garden, which I'm planning to start this spring (I'm in the southern hemisphere), but all of the seeds are 4 to 6 years old and I think it would be a massive waste of money to discard them and buy new ones. So I'm definitely going to try this with my seeds and let you know how it worked.

I love all your videos. I would also think it would be super great to make short videos for each type of veg. How to grow, when to grow etc. Lovely to just refer back and also you don't get videos like that for the South African climate. Please please please.

I double dug my first large flower garden, then added peat, sand, and years old horse manure, and a layer of mulch on top about once a year. That was the best soil, and stayed almost completely weed free! It was initially a lot of work, but it paid off. Decades later, I don't think I could hand double dig an entire garden, though!

In the Western Cape my winter veg garden is always the best. My summer garden not so much. I still grow a lot but it's not as abundant as our sun is very hot and our soil is sand.

Does the Hydrogen peroxide effect the seedling in any way? Do you have to do anything different with the seedlings (less or more light,, more nitrogen,, etc)? Wouldn't putting the seeds in a 'brown' paper towel work even better (more nutrients, shades more light from the H2O2)???

Planted clover as a cover crop in my potato bed last fall, terminated this spring with solarization. I am in zone 5a, would vetch survive our winter? If so, I could use vetch over clover this year and instead of relying on good weather for solarization, just cut below the soil. Stay Well!!!

When planting your corms, it pays to cut off the top 1/10th to expose the raw clove inside. This will almost ensure germination.
